Meet our hosts
Our hosts
Maxi Schoelzel
Founder & Art Therapist
Hi, my name is Maxi!

When I was a teenager, I often wanted to simply draw or paint by myself. When I grew up, I started more and more appreciating the honest exchange with other people about life, love, all and nothing. So I became an art therapist, an occupation that allowed me to combine art with honest, true-hearted reflection.

When I became a mother, I went through a process of questioning my identity, my self-worth, the way our society works, as well as the so called work-life-balance. Ultimately, I was wondering how all of this can be combined with being human and a human life.

My vision for Deep Breath is to create something honest and true-hearted with that allows me to make a living for me and my family. It's also my place to be and explore myself, to meet people I would have never met in my life, and to inspire and be inspired by every person I meet, my colleagues, friends, and my brother.
Ben Schoelzel
Founder & Meditation Teacher
Hi, I'm Ben!

For a very long time I lived my life by logic and reasoning. I did the things I thought I should be doing to "be happy". The thing was - it didn't make me happy. It was actually in stark contrast to my student days, where I mostly didn't do the things I thought I should be doing, but instead went with the flow and my heart.

That insight made me wonder: what is this thing we call "mind"? Why does my mind have the ability to make me suffer? How do we combine analytical, logical thinking with our sensate experience, gut feeling and all the things we cannot see yet but that already have an effect on us? What's the relationship between my understanding of the world, myself and my actions in the world?

One of the ways for me to engage with these questions is to meditate. Meditation for me is a way to increase the range of experiences in which we are free & happy and a system to break free of all systems. It's also a powerful tool to map out our mind and thus our experience of the world.

My vision for Deep Breath is to create a safe space for vulnerability, deep connection, friendship, and freedom - a place to expand, build, and share my own personal growth journey. It's also doing something with people I care about - my sister and friends, enjoy working with, and can grow as a human being.
We'd love to stay in touch with you!

I want to improve my self-worth or feel insecure
Having low self-worth sucks. It's also one of the key factors both in anxiety and depression as well as lower overall life satisfaction.
Wanting to improve your self-worth is thus a great step towards being happier and more joyful - congrats on taking this first step.
Deep Breath was built around boosting self-worth. Journeying with means you will join a community of like-minded and like-hearted people. You will also be able to join our workshops, where you'll learn both theory and practice to increase your self-worth in a space where you can safely express yourself and be vulnerable.
I'm looking for relaxation and new ways to engage with the world
Welcome to our virtual place in the virtual woods! Great to have you! Relaxation and stillness are hard to come by in modern days. Often it's not only the outside world that's hectic, but also our inner one. Stillness, relaxation and new ways to relate to the world can all be fostered from within. Join us to hear what worked for us and share with us what worked for you!
I feel stressed out and struggle winding down
Sorry to hear that, friend. It's hectic times we live in and it can be overwhelming juggling all of one's commitments. Besides reducing what's happening in one's life or "doing things faster", another big lever to reduce stress is to relate to our experience of it differently. It can also help to learn how to practice to relax and to wind down.
I feel out of touch with myself
Oh, that's an ugly one - sorry to hear you're feeling out of touch with yourself. It's a shitty place to be in, as connecting often happens via connecting - not having that ability can feel alienating. We've been there and know a thing or two about how to reconnect with yourself, others, and the world.
Sending you hugs!
