Meet our hosts
Our hosts
Maxi Schoelzel
Founder & Art Therapist
As a teenager, Maxi often wanted to draw or paint alone. Growing up, she started to talk to others about life, philosophy and what it’s all about more and more. Becoming an art therapist allowed her to combine these passions.

When she became a mother, she went through a process of deeply questioning her identity, self-worth, the way our society works and the so-called work-life-balance. Ultimately, she was wondering how can “what makes one human” be combined with our day-to-day life.

Deep Breath is her place to create something authentic that allows her to make a living for her and her family. It's also a place for her to explore herself, to meet new people, and to be inspired.
Ben Schoelzel
Founder & Meditation Teacher
Ben lived his life for a long time by logic and reason and did the things he thought he should be doing to "be happy". The thing was - it didn't make him happy.

That made him wonder: What makes us truly happy? What is this thing we call "mind"? Why can his mind make him suffer?

One of the ways for him to engage with these questions is to meditate. It's also a powerful tool to map out our mind and thus our experience of the world.
Ben has done several week-long retreats, lived in a Buddhist monastery as a layman for a while and has a daily 2h meditation practice.

What brought you here?
I want to improve my self-worth or feel insecure
Having low self-worth sucks. It's also one of the key factors both in anxiety and depression as well as lower overall life satisfaction.
Wanting to improve your self-worth is thus a great step towards being happier and more joyful - congrats on taking this first step.
Deep Breath was built around boosting self-worth. Journeying with means you will join a community of like-minded and like-hearted people. You will also be able to join our workshops, where you'll learn both theory and practice to increase your self-worth in a space where you can safely express yourself and be vulnerable.
I'm looking for relaxation and new ways to engage with the world
Welcome to our virtual place in the virtual woods! Great to have you! Relaxation and stillness are hard to come by in modern days. Often it's not only the outside world that's hectic, but also our inner one. Stillness, relaxation and new ways to relate to the world can all be fostered from within. Join us to hear what worked for us and share with us what worked for you!
I feel stressed out and struggle winding down
Sorry to hear that, friend. It's hectic times we live in and it can be overwhelming juggling all of one's commitments. Besides reducing what's happening in one's life or "doing things faster", another big lever to reduce stress is to relate to our experience of it differently. It can also help to learn how to practice to relax and to wind down.
I feel out of touch with myself
Oh, that's an ugly one - sorry to hear you're feeling out of touch with yourself. It's a shitty place to be in, as connecting often happens via connecting - not having that ability can feel alienating. We've been there and know a thing or two about how to reconnect with yourself, others, and the world.
Sending you hugs!
I want to be happier, more peaceful, and get out of the rat race
Uhhh, big one! We've been there ourselves! Wonderful to have another fellow human being share the insight with us, that chasing after external validation and objects will never fully satisfy and fulfil you! That's the first step towards leading a happier and more fulfilled life. Deep Breath is centered around this idea and you've thus found the perfect starting place for your new section in life. Register for one of our workshops, join our community or schedule a call - we're here for you!

About Deep Breath

Everyone is human, and everyone has problems.

1 in 5 adults struggle with their mental health each year, and we believe this can be changed. We believe that a society focused on solving problems in the external world - on fulfilling yet another need by controlling the world - is misguided.

We believe that lasting happiness can be achieved from within. We believe that building communities and systems of support that allow people to feel integrated and at ease are key pillars in nurturing happiness.

We believe that it's better to fail at something that's good, than to succeed at something that's bad.

We work on transforming the mind via emotional healing and personal growth. We do this using art therapy methods and meditation in a holistic approach to change and grow. That's the path we've embarked on.

Never ask that question ‘how’, for then there is always somebody giving you a rope. [We’re] not helping you in any way, but together we are walking along the same road, perhaps not at the same speed. Set your own speed and we will walk together.
